Investigation launched after body found in pond at Belvidere park

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — Authorities recovered the body of a man in a pond at Spencer Park in Belvidere on Monday afternoon.

According to the Belvidere Police Department, officers were called to the park, at 825 N. Appleton Road, around 12:50 p.m.

Authorities said the victim, a Hispanic male in his 50s, was found face down in the water on the north side of the park.

Police said there was no immediate sign of foul play, and the body was turned over to the Boone County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities said the investigation is ongoing.
