Hispanic man found dead in Belvidere pond identified

BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO) — The Boone County Coroner has released the name of a Hispanic man who was found dead in a pond in Spencer Park in September.

According to the Belvidere Police Department, officers were called to the park, at 825 N. Appleton Road, around 12:50 p.m. on September 15th.

Juan Lopez Garcia, 59, was found face down in a small pond on the north side of the park.

The coroner’s office said Garcia was staying at Americas Best Value Inn in Belvidere prior to his death.

His death is not considered suspicious and no foul play is suspected, Coroner Rebecca Wigget said Tuesday.

Anyone with information on Garcia’s next of kin is asked to contact the coroner’s office.
