Wylie West Elementary School Teacher Melinda Lambert shared a screenshot of a newspaper article headline Wednesday that read Charlie Kirk Says Gun Deaths ‘Unfortunately’ Worth it to Keep 2nd Amendment along with the following caption:
“Looks like he took one for the team. Hope he is roasting! He spewed hate, racism and misogyny so I’m not shedding any tears. Then the orange POS PEDOPHILE RAPIST wants flags at half mast. I served for 20 years, my husband served for 26 we will never get flags flown at half mast. Yet this vile a** kissing POS does. Pathetic!”
Several members of the public say they believe Lambert’s post is inappropriate and expressed their concerns to Wylie ISD.
Wylie West Junior High Band Director Chris Brannan is also under fire for a social media post he made following Kirk’s death.
Brannan’s post includes a picture of text that reads, in part, “Charlie Kirk was a racist, xenophobic, transphobic, islamophobic, sexist, white nationalist mouthpiece who made millions of dollars inciting hatred in this country.”
He shared this picture along with the following quote by Mark Twain: “I’ve never wished a man dead, but I have read some obituaries with great pleasure.”
In response, Wylie ISD says they are taking the “inappropriate and offense comments” “very seriously” and referenced their electronic communication and social media policies in the following statement:
“Wylie ISD has been made aware of recent concerns circulating on social media. We do not condone and firmly disagree with the inappropriate and offensive comments that were made. While the district cannot comment on specific personnel matters, we want to reassure our community that situations involving employee use of electronic communication and social media are taken very seriously.
Wylie ISD has clear policies and procedures in place to ensure that such matters are addressed in a timely and appropriate manner. When concerns arise, they are reviewed carefully, and appropriate action is taken in accordance with district policy.
Our focus remains on providing a safe, respectful learning environment for all students. We are committed to upholding the trust of our families and community through professionalism, accountability, and transparency.”
KTAB and KRBC reached out to Lambert regarding her social media post, but she declined to offer any further comment.
When asked for a statement on his post, Brannan responded, “I sincerely apologize for my posts, and I deeply regret my choice of words. I have attempted to remove these posts and reflect on being more empathetic to those in my community. Words matter and I hope to do better in the future.”
Conservative influencer Charlie Kirk was shot and killed while speaking to a crowd during an event at Utah Valley University Wednesday.
