Cleco employees lend a hand at Alexandria Zoo’s annual events

PINEVILLE, La. (WNTZ) – Cleco employees spent Monday volunteering at the Alexandria Zoo as part of the company’s Done in a Day program, helping staff prepare for upcoming seasonal events.

Volunteers organized and set up decorations and lights for Zoo Boo and the Holiday Light Safari, two of the zoo’s largest annual events.

“Alexandria Zoo’s annual Zoo Boo and Holiday Light Safari events are massive undertakings,” said Catie Hirsch, curator of education at the Alexandria Zoo. “They each require multiple months of preparation that would just not be possible without the generous support of volunteers. Corporate volunteers bring excitement and energy to our event preparation season that just can’t be replicated.”

Cleco’s Done in a Day initiative partners with charitable organizations across its 24-parish service territory to provide volunteer support for projects that can be completed in a single day or a few hours. The program also gives employees an opportunity to engage with their communities.

“Cleco volunteers are always excited to support local organizations, especially those with such a great educational mission,” said Colie Plaster, communications representative at Cleco and coordinator of the Done in a Day program.

According to the company, Cleco employees have donated more than 3,200 volunteer hours in 2025. Organizations interested in requesting volunteer support can email corpcomm@cleco.com.

Cleco serves about 295,000 customers in Louisiana and operates eight generating units with a total capacity of 2,676 megawatts.
