Belichick, Tar Heels in the win column with 17-point victory over Charlotte
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — There was a big turnout Saturday night to see the eight-time Super Bowl champ in the Queen City despite the rain that pushed the game into a one-hour delay.

Both coaches were looking for their first win of the season.

Early on, the Tar Heels quieted the rowdy crowd with Gio Lopez’s 51-yard strike to Chris Culliver. Heels were up 7-0 before Rece Verhoff’s 48-yard field goal put Heels ahead by 10 heading into the second quarter.

In the second quarter, the Niners add a field goal, but the Heels extend the gap with another touchdown shortly before halftime, going into the locker room up 17-3.

In the second half, the only scoring was another Tar Heel field goal. Nothing was working for the Niners on offense. Later in the game, they turned to Duke transfer Grayson Loftis, but to no avail. Charlotte had 271 yards on offense tonight, but very minimal scoring to show for it.

Belichick and his squad return home next Saturday to face Richmond. Charlotte will stay at Jerry Richardson Stadium next week for their game against Monmouth.
