Assault, deadly shooting happened within hours on same Emeryville block: police

(KRON) — An aggravated assault and deadly shooting happened on the same block overnight on Tuesday, within hours of each other, according to the Emeryville Police Department. Both occurred on the 3800 block of San Pablo Avenue, although EPD said the events are unrelated.

The first incident, the deadly shooting, happened around 1:12 a.m. when an Emeryville resident reported hearing gunshots. According to EPD, a male victim was shot and was involved in a verbal argument before the shooting. “The argument escalated, resulting in gunfire,” EPD said.

The suspects tried to escape the scene of the shooting, but UC Berkeley Police Department officers were in the area and detained them, EPD said. The victim later died in the hospital. His identity has not been released at this time.

Later that night, around 3:50 a.m., EPD officers were dispatched to the same area for the report of an aggravated assault. They found a man who was “bleeding heavily.”

First responders took the victim to the hospital where he is expected to survive. No further details about the assault were released by EPD.

As of now, no suspect(s) have been arrested in this case.
