Kayaker in critical condition after rescue near Wolf Creek Dam

RUSSELL SPRINGS, Ky. (FOX 56) — Another person was rescued Monday morning near the Wolf Creek Dam.

On Sept. 1, Russell County Search and Rescue (RCSAR) said crews were dispatched around 9 a.m. after a kayaker had capsized in “frigid waters” near the Wolf Creek Dam.

Luckily, they were wearing a flotation device and were pulled from the water by a nearby boater. But according to RCSAR, the kayaker had already ingested a “life-threatening” amount of water and was in critical condition.

“Emergency crews coordinated a rapid response, and the individual was airlifted to UK Hospital for advanced medical care,” RCSAR wrote. “Our team remained on scene to recover the kayak and ensure the area was secure. This incident is a powerful reminder of the importance of wearing proper safety gear—and of the strength found in collaboration.”

The rescue team has assisted in multiple rescues near the dam since July.

Officials urge boaters to obey all warning signs and stay at least 500 feet from the dam, as “conditions can change in seconds.”
