Rich, 26, was arrested after deputies with the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office found the body of her mother, Carol Rich, outside her home on Burnett Road around 9 p.m. on March 14.
On Friday, Aug. 22, a motion was filed by Rich’s legal counsel to be evaluated for mental competency to stand trial. If the motion were granted as filed, she would also be tested to see if she suffered long-term brain damage or experienced “external emotional disturbance” on March 14.
She appeared in court on the morning of July 28 for a pre-trial conference. Her next appearance— another pre-trial conference— is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Monday.
Rich, charged with murder, has been lodged in the Laurel County Correctional Center, where she is being held on a $250,000 cash bond.
