The Mayfield Police Department posted on Facebook that it happened on the night of Aug. 22 in a parking lot adjacent to War Memorial Stadium during the fourth quarter of a football game between Mayfield High School and Graves County High School.
One person was reportedly taken to the Jackson Purchase Medical Center by emergency personnel before being flown to Nashville for treatment.
Authorities wrote on Facebook that Kentucky State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), the Graves County Sheriff’s Office, and Mayfield EMS all helped officers at the scene.
Around 11 a.m. on Saturday, Mayfield Mayor Kathy O’Nan asked residents to remember that violence is not the face of the community.
“The immediate action by first responders, coaches and staff of both school’s, and countless others is to be commended,” Mayor Nan wrote. “We will continue to react as we always do when we are hit hard – we come together and become a unified community of people who are determined to support each other and protect our children. We will remain, as always Mayfield and Graves County Strong.”
