Police: Man arrested after filming inappropriate video at Leesburg Target without consent

LEESBURG, Va. (DC News Now) — A man is facing several charges after he allegedly took an “upskirting” video at Target in Leesburg, which sparked a multi-jurisdictional investigation, police detailed.

The investigation began on June 28, when Leesburg police officers were notified that a man had filmed an inappropriate video of a person inside the Target on Edwards Ferry Road NE. However, before officers arrived, the man left.

During the investigation, detectives identified four additional victims, who had been filmed without their consent. The suspect was later identified as 36-year-old Tate Dietrich.

On Aug. 11, multiple agencies executed a search warrant at Dietrich’s home in Bedford. Officers located evidence that led Leesburg officers to obtain four warrants, charging Dietrich with unlawful filming (upskirting).

As the investigation continued, detectives determined that Dietrich allegedly committed similar acts at multiple stores across Bedford, Roanoke County and Leesburg.

Dietrich was charged in Bedford and is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Lynchburg.
