Firefighters handle call in Locust Gap overnight

LOCUST GAP – Firefighters from across southern Northumberland County converged on a Mount Carmel Township village early Thursday morning for a reported house fire.

Crews responded to a home on Railroad Street for a report of smoke in the basement.

No fire was found initially and some units were held in quarters until the source of the smoke was located.

The source was eventually located and the home was ventilated before fire crews cleared the scene.

Responding were firefighters from Locust Gap, Natalie, Strong, Beaverdale, Shamokin, and Kulpmont, among others.
