The former BYU QB delivered in the Green Wave’s second scrimmage on Saturday. He took a majority of the first-team reps, was 4/4, and led a touchdown drive to start things off.
“It’s fun to run through the motions, so game day isn’t the first time,” Retzlaff said. “I feel like I played well.”
Kadin Semonza took a few sacks early and wasn’t sharp on the first couple of drives. He finished well in the two-minute drill, but Retzlaff looked like the better QB. And while he has only been here for a few weeks, Sumrall would be comfortable with him starting Week 1 against Northwestern.
“Jake is at a place where he can do enough of what we’ve had in for a while now,” head coach Jon Sumrall said. “It’s starting to slow down for him.”
“This offense is pretty awesome,” Retzlaff said. “The way coach Craddock can build so many things into one play call, there’s a lot of times at the line of scrimmage where there’s only one play called, and I can get to three to four different plays. There are other times where we call two plays and can get to whichever one is going to be good. I’m more comfortable this week than last week doing all of those things.”
Tulane begins the season Saturday, August 30, against Northwestern.
