Woman indicted on manslaughter, hit-and-run charges in deadly Baton Rouge crash

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — During an indictment hearing Thursday morning, a woman was formally charged with manslaughter.

According to a report, Taquencya Harris fatally hit Laderica Stewart, 22, and injured three other people in a car crash as they were trying to cross Plank Road on March 30.

Investigators found Harris’s car at a body shop on Greenwell Springs Road. According to arrest documents, Harris told the body shop owner that she had hit a deer with her car to explain the damage.

Harris is also being charged with two counts of hit and run and one count of obstruction of justice.

Her next court date will be for an arraignment.
