Taquencya Harris, 34, was charged with two counts of hit-and-run driving, two counts of hit-and-run driving; death or serious bodily injury, one count of obstruction of justice and one count of careless operation.
An affidavit states that four people were hit by an SUV while trying to cross Plank Road on March 30. Police identified Laderica Stewart, 22, as the person killed in the crash. One person was seriously injured, and the other two victims had minor injuries.
Investigators found Harris’s car at a body shop on Greenwell Springs Road. According to arrest documents, Harris told the body shop owner that she had hit a deer with her car to explain the damage.
A video showed Harris in the driver’s seat of the car before the crash. Detectives learned the video was taken at a parking lot near the crash location.
Investigators learned that Harris was driving 52 mph in a 40 mph zone near the time of the fatal crash.
