Weather determines outcome in Beulah Fire as it remains at 0% containment

SUMMIT COUNTY, Utah (ABC4) — Fire personnel increased Friday as crews continue to fight the blazing Beulah Fire which is still at 0% containment.

Fire officials say the amount of personnel jumped from 550 to almost 630 in just one day. Expected thunderstorm activity over the weekend remains the main factor for crews to stay on high alert.

Steady cloud cover moderates the fire, but large gusts of wind could change the outcome and risks increased activity. U.S. Forest Service Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest warned aviation efforts may be hindered due to strong winds and weather.

Firefighters are tirelessly working on the ground by hauling out dead and dry vegetation. They have been sure to use heavy equipment like masticators, chippers, excavators, and dozers to be the most efficient in removal. Crews say they are determined to connect dozer lines to a previous burn scar.

Structure protection measures are nearly completed for Hinckley Boy Scout Camp and still are heavily engaged in protecting Christmas Meadows, according to fire officials.

Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Summit County have established notification zones. They continue to work together to determine the best “Ready, Set, or Go” status based on current fire activity.
