The incident happened on Friday, August 8, in the 3300 block of Greenwood Road. When officers arrived, they found a 14-year-old victim lying unresponsive in the roadway.
According to SPD, a white Ford pickup was traveling westbound on Greenwood Road when the victim unexpectedly entered the roadway on his bicycle. The driver was unable to avoid the collision, but he immediately stopped, provided aid, and called 911. He also submitted a voluntary blood sample for toxicology testing.
The 14-year-old boy was reportedly riding his bike with several other minors when the incident happened. He was taken to Ochsner LSU Health, where he still remains in critical condition.
