School zone cameras will be in operation once again. A measure Mayor Tom Arceneaux says has greatly helped enforce speed limits.
“Our primary concern is safety, and the biggest thing that has changed people’s behavior in school zones have been these cameras, because people know that everybody that glides through that school zone without paying attention is going to get a ticket. That’s healthy for our children and healthy for the school system itself,” explains Mayor Arceneaux.
A new Louisiana law now requires school zones with traffic cameras to have clear signs and yellow markings on the road, so drivers are aware that cameras are being used to catch speeders. Mayor Arceneaux says the city has not completed all school zones.
“It is a big job. We’re spending a little over $100,000 on it. So, we’re going to make sure that people are aware that they’re in a school zone and that they have to obey that school zone,” he explains.
Caddo schools are back in session on August 13.
