BIG COUNTRY, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – Five counties in the Big Country are under a burn ban, even though there are no current drought conditions.

Texas A&M Forest Service has reported that the following counties are currently under a burn ban:

  • Coleman
  • Brown
  • Callahan
  • Eastland
  • Knox

Meteorologists from BigCountryHomepage.com provided an update on the weather conditions, emphasizing the ongoing drought and the recent rainfall in the Big Country.

“Currently, there are no active droughts. Despite the ten triple-digit days we have seen since the beginning of the year, we are still above normal in terms of rainfall since January 1. While we are negative so far for rainfall this month, we have a few more rain chances up ahead, thanks to an upper-level low, which will bring in colder temperatures. The good news is that we are on the downhill in terms of peak summer heat,” said KTAB Meteorologist Susana Harbert.

The Texas A&M Forest Service shared tips on how to extinguish a fire:

  • Never leave a campfire unattended; allow the wood to burn completely to ash if possible.
  • Pour water on all embers until the hissing sounds stop.
  • Stir the campfire ashes and water with a shovel.
  • Scape logs to remove embers.
  • Stir and make sure everything is wet and cold to the touch.
