“It was a shock,” he said. “It couldn’t have come at a better time.”
Shives said he and his wife have started the process of buying a house.
“It’s like it was meant to be,” Shives said.
He found out he won his prize in the second of four $8 Million Money Maker Second Chance drawings when he got a notification from the lottery.
There were over 1.3 million total entries in the drawing.
“I thought it was a joke,” Shives said. “I kept thinking I was getting pranked.”
He arrived at lottery headquarters on Thursday to collect his prize.
After required state and federal tax withholdings, he took home $71,750.
In addition to the house, Shives plans to buy a car for his daughter.
