California Highway Patrol officers shut down northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the Monterey Street exit just before 4 p.m. A video posted on the CHP’s X page showed the fire burning near a small homeless encampment.
The CHP sent a SigAlert advising drivers to use alternate routes and expect heavy traffic while firefighters battled the blaze. The CHP advised at 4:16 p.m., “Traffic backed up south of SR-25. SR-25 to N/B US-101 transition being impacted.”
All lanes of Highway 101 were reopened by 5:20 p.m. after firefighters extinguished flames. “Thank you for being patient and drive safe everyone,” the CHP wrote.
