Susan, a 38-year-old non-traditional student, told us that age should not hold anyone back from returning to school.
She is an online student, but it hasn’t stopped her from forming relationships with her fellow students through social media and messaging systems.
She has a husband and three children, a lot to juggle with work and school, but the flexibility of online classes helps it work. She chose LSUS because of its low tuition cost.
She will graduate in December and start applying for her dream job. She was awarded $5,000 through the scholarship, which she said is a relief.
Merritt is an immigrant who came to the United States as a child with her family from Costa Rica. She has a message for Latinas.
She said, “My mom cleaned houses and my dad mowed lawns for a living so we kind of put ourselves in those roles because culturally that is what we’ve seen, but I want to tell every Latino out there that there is not boundaries, you can be the CEO, you can be COO, you can do anything that you want to do.”
