ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) — Louisiana State University of Alexandria’s College of Liberal Arts is launching a new live performance series designed to bring audiences closer to the stories behind the music.
Dubbed The Black Box Sessions, the series will take place inside LSUA’s Black Box Theater and will feature live musical performances paired with intimate conversations between artists and the audience. The sessions aim to spotlight the inspirations, experiences, and creative journeys that shape each artist’s work.
The inaugural event is set for Friday, August 23 at 6 p.m., and will feature two Southern performers: Alex Smith and CJ Solar.
Smith, a Louisiana native known for his high-energy performances and Southern charm, has previously shared the stage with artists such as Dolly Parton, Lainey Wilson, and Brett Eldredge. He has also represented the state in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade and performed on national platforms including Today in Nashville and Fox & Friends.
Joining him is singer-songwriter CJ Solar, named one of Rolling Stone’s “New Artists You Need to Know.” Solar is known for his blend of Southern rock and country storytelling and has written hits for artists including Morgan Wallen, Jason Aldean, and Justin Moore. His honors include Music Row’s Independent Artist of the Year and multiple ASCAP nominations.
