DALLAS (KDAF) — A good night’s sleep is essential for health, but did you know that where you live can make a big difference in how well you rest?

Health insurance comparison service iSelect analyzed environmental factors including noise, light pollution and temperature to identify the U.S. cities offering the best conditions for a good night’s sleep.

Dallas, San Antonio and Houston rank among the best cities in the U.S. for sleep, according to the study.

10 New York City 4,400 11.81 153.12 0.66 26.55

Dallas, San Antonio and Houston feature in the ranking for sleep quality. Dallas ranks the highest among them in third place, thanks to relatively low light pollution and noise complaint searches. San Antonio ranks in sixth, with lower temperatures aiding sleep but higher light pollution levels. Houston rounds out the Texas Trio in eight place, facing the highest noise complaint searches of the three and strong light pollution levels, which contribute to its overall sleep score.

San Jose ranks at the top with a Sleep Index of 61.24. With 11.88 hours of darkness and a light pollution score of 0.88, San Jose offers optimal conditions for restful sleep, making it an ideal city for those seeking good sleep quality.

On the other end, New York City ranks the lowest with a score of 26.55. Despite having 11.81 hours of darkness, its extreme light pollution score (0.66) and high noise complaints (4,400 per month) make it the least sleep-friendly city in the U.S.
