Social media argument led to attempted homicide: Oakley PD
(KRON) — An online argument was the motivation for a shooting that left one man hospitalized and multiple homes riddled with bullets in an Oakley cul-de-sac on Aug. 1, police say.

The shooting happened on the 4400 block of Macadamia Lane around 10:30 a.m. Oakley Police Department officers responded to the area and found a 40-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound at an ampm store near the intersection of Cypress Road and Main Street.

A resident of the cul-de-sac also suffered minor injuries when they were allegedly hit with flying glass broken by stray bullets. The suspected shooter, 35-year-old Derrick Page of Antioch, left the scene before police arrived, Oakley PD said.

“The shooting was the culmination of an ongoing argument between the suspect and the victim that was occurring via social media platforms,” Oakley PD said. “… The victim arrived at Page’s girlfriend’s house. Page pointed a rifle towards the victim and the victim got back into his vehicle to drive away. Page fired several times at the victim when he was fleeing, striking him at least once.”

The U.S. Marshals Service helped Oakley PD find and arrest Page on Aug. 4, on the 2800 block of Gentrytown Drive. Page was booked into the Contra Costa County Jail, where he is being held on $500,000 bail.

“We are seeking attempted homicide and shooting into an inhabited dwelling charges against him,” Oakley PD said.

The victim of the shooting is expected to recover, Oakley PD said. Police have not found the gun used in the shooting.

Oakley Police Chief Paul Beard said that the shooting was the city’s first act of gun violence since December of 2023.

“This incident perforated that streak in a very violent fashion and in such a way that we could have had more unintended victims,” Beard said. “Any bloodshed is too much, but I am grateful nobody else was significantly injured in this incident.”
