“There is an unplanned outage in your area,” read a message on the PG&E website. “Our team is evaluating the electrical system to identify damaged sections and make necessary repairs in order to safely turn the power back on.”
According to a PG&E spokesperson, the outage was impacting 5,220 customers at its peak. However, one hour into the repairs and 4,900 customers had their power restored. By 9:55 a.m., another 264 customers were restored. Currently, about 56 customers remain without power.
The outage, PG&E said, was caused by third-party contractors digging into a PG&E riser.
PG&E estimated that power would be restored around 12:45 p.m.
Further north, another PG&E outage was impacting hundreds, possibly thousands, of customers along the Hegenberger corridor in Oakland. PG&E officials estimate that power will be restored by 12:15 p.m. in that outage.
