Louisiana State Troopers responded to the crash at approximately 2 p.m. on Louisiana Highway 2 near Liberty Hill Road, where 68-year-old Michael Coleman was killed.
According to the Louisiana State Police, Coleman was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Alero eastbound on Louisiana Highway 2. “For reasons still under investigation, Coleman’s vehicle exited the roadway, traveled down an embankment, and collided with a tree,” according to LSP.
The LSP said Coleman was not wearing a seatbelt during the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering grave injuries. While impairment was not suspected, the LSP took toxicology samples for testing.
“While not all crashes are survivable, statistics show that properly wearing your seat belt will dramatically reduce your chance of being severely injured or killed in a crash,” a press release stated. “Louisiana law requires that every person in a vehicle, regardless of seating position, always remain buckled up. Properly wearing your seat belt is one of the most effective ways to save your life and reduce injuries during crashes.”
