In an interview on This Week in Pennsylvania, Fetterman discusses her new book “Radical Tenderness: The Value of Vulnerability in an Often Unkind World.” She says she never thought she’d write a book and believes the “world has been unkind “to most people.”
“I’m very lucky,” expressed Fetterman. “I have, you know, wonderful kids, I love the work that I do, but I think our culture has moved into a space where it celebrates being unkind to each other. Of course, that includes me, but I think that includes everyone as well.”
Fetterman recently made news on the book tour circuit, saying she wouldn’t support her husband running for president someday. When asked on This Week in Pennsylvania if she’d support her husband running for re-election in 2028, she made it clear that her husband’s decisions on whether to run are solely his.
“I mean, I would support, his choices are his choices. It doesn’t mean I enjoy politics, it doesn’t mean I think anyone should run for president. I think that must be a nightmare for any family that decides to jump into a role like that. But ultimately that’s his decision and I make my own decisions, so whatever he wants to do is fine.”
Fetterman says she won’t speak for her husband and said she maintains her independence from her husband’s work.
“My autonomy is really important to me,” Fetterman also noted. “And I really try to separate his job and his work from me and my life. I say the least interesting thing about me is that my husband is a senator, so I really try to focus on that.”
Fetterman also said she would never run for office herself, saying she doesn’t like politics, especially over the past decade.
“I think it’s moved into a space where it’s not productive. “It’s really just mean, and I’m not, so it’s not the place for me.”
