LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – After a quiet start to Saturday, temperatures heat fast under a mixture of sun and clouds. By lunchtime, we will be near the 90 degree mark. Storms will begin to form during the late afternoon hours to our north and then push into the area in the evening. One or two storms could be strong or severe with gusty winds, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Highs today will be in the low and mid 90s. Slightly drier air could work into northern parts of Acadiana overnight allowing temperatures to drop more to the mid 70s.

The tropics are quiet for now, but two tropical waves in the Atlantic bear watching as they approach the U.S. coastline late next week. There’s a lot of questions as to whether these will even survive the trek across the Atlantic and the National Hurricane Center does not expect any development through the next week.

Summer heat really builds to start next week with highs in the mid 90s and very low rain chances. The higher humidity returns by midweek leading to increased rain chances. Better rain chances return by the end of the week and into next weekend.
