Jeanerette first responders honored for saving man’s life

JEANERETTE, La. (KLFY) — First responders in Jeanerette were honored at City Hall this week for using techniques that brought some on back to life.

The emergency response involved EMTs from Acadian Ambulance and firefighters from the Jeanerette Fire Department who all played crucial roles in the man’s survival. CPR was being administered by the man’s family members when the first responders arrived, which officials said was vital to the positive outcome.

“We started our advanced cardiac life support treatment, including medications and multiple rounds of defibrillation,” said Trent Boudreaux, a paramedic field supervisor with Acadian Ambulance. “The patient was clinically deceased, but we were able to bring him back.”

The man was released from the hospital just eight days after the incident.

Fire Chief Sherry Landry emphasized the importance of community preparedness and urged residents to get certified in CPR, noting, “It can change your life, your family’s life, or someone else’s. Every second counts.”

EMTs Caylie Guidry and Stacey LeBlanc, who were also honored, expressed how the experience has impacted them. “It means a lot knowing that I actually saved someone’s life,” said Guidry.

Jeanerette Mayor Carol Bourgeois Jr. highlighted the importance of supporting first responders and acknowledged their role in the community, stating, “These are young people — they are our future. We’re proud to promote good news and to support those who serve our community.”
