Teresa Webster, 56, of Boynton Beach, Florida, is charged with reckless driving, suspected DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of stolen property and multiple counts of retail theft.
Jennings Police observed a motor vehicle crash Tuesday on I-10 involving a vehicle towing a trailer. The vehicle pulling the trailer had overturned, with its occupants temporarily trapped inside. The occupants were removed from the vehicle with only minor injuries reported.
Witnesses said the crash was caused by a second vehicle driven Webster, who was reportedly driving erratically prior to the collision, officials said. Webster was detained at the scene, and a toxicology screening was conducted. Results are pending.
A search of Webster’s vehicle found alleged drug paraphernalia and items suspected to be stolen property, authorities said. Investigators allegedly linked Webster to a theft of tools from a Home Depot in Slidell and the theft of a Louis Vuitton handbag valued at $1,350 from a Dillard’s department store in Alabama.
Surveillance footage obtained from multiple retailers confirmed Webster’s involvement in a series of retail thefts along the I-10 corridor, stretching from Florida to Texas, authorities said. She has an extensive criminal history across four states, including charges related to narcotics possession and trafficking, retail theft, fraud and possession of stolen property.
Webster was booked into the Jeff Davis Parish Jail on a $12,500 bond.
The investigation is ongoing, police said.
