Ringtown church to celebrate 155 years

RINGTOWN – A place of worship in the valley will be celebrating 155 years this weekend.

Aurand Memorial United Methodist Church’s history dates back to 1870, with beginnings in Christ Church, built along Shenandoah Road just south of Ringtown near the cemetery.

In 1894, under the leadership of Rev. Simon Aurand, the church moved into town to its present location at Main and 6th Streets. The original church there burned nearly to the ground in 1919. The building was rebuilt by the end of the year.

Later, St. Paul’s United Methodist in Brandonville merged into the Ringtown parish.

A celebration of the church’s 155 year history will take place this Sunday morning.

Worship with communion begins at 10am followed by a sharing of memories and the church’s history at 11am and a catered dinner at noon.

History books will also be sold.
