Grambling State football seeing new energy in second year under Mickey Joseph

GRAMBLING, LA (KTAL/KMSS) – In December of 2023, Grambling State University hired Mickey Joseph to help get the Tigers back to the top of the Southwestern Athletic Conference.

Going from a 4-4 season in 2023 to a 5-7 season in 2024, Grambling fans, and the program itself, are searching for more success.

One big issue to fix in the offseason was the culture in the locker room. This year with a staff handpicked and roster recruited by Joseph, he can already feel improvements.

“It was bad, the chemistry was bad,” Joseph said. “It was a trust issue, and like I said with elevation requires separation, so we had to separate from some people, because we need to elevate.”

Joseph now feels more security within his program.

“I move in silence when it comes to football. I’m a very outgoing person, but when it comes to football and running an organization, I’m moving in silence because it’s nobody’s business unless it I want it to be your business,” Joseph said. “I think some people have to understand that about me, and we have the guys in place right now in this building, the people in this building, we’re on one page and that’s how it should be.”

The Tigers will debut the new and improved team when their season begins on August 30 at Independence Stadium in Shreveport, where they face off against Langston. Kickoff is at 7 pm.
