LAFAYETTE, La. (KLFY) – After early morning storms rolled through Acadiana, quiet weather returns for much of the day. Temperatures rise fast and will reach the mid 90s during the afternoon hours. Combined with the humidity, it will feel more like 105 to 108 during the afternoon hours. A HEAT ADVISORY is in effect for Acadia, St. Landry, and Evangeline Parishes for today. Showers and storms once again develop late in the day to bring some cooling relief. One or two of these storms could be strong or severe, bringing strong winds, hail, heavy rain, and frequent lightning. Tonight, temperatures will settle in the 70s with quiet conditions returning.

Thursday begins with warm and humid conditions once again. Temperatures reach the lower 90s during the afternoon hours, but scattered showers and thunderstorms will bring some relief to the area before it gets too hot.

In the tropics, things remain quiet. Through the next two weeks, we will keep a watch on a couple of tropical waves moving across the Atlantic. There is no immediate threat of any tropical formation.

Locally, the heat backs off as rain chances remain high through the weekend. Temperatures each afternoon reach around 90 with scattered rain chances. By next week, high pressure builds over the area once again leading to highs in the mid 90s.
