Former director Ghassan Korban stepped down in February after being selected as leadership in 2018.
During Korban’s time at SWBNO, officials noted the utility’s achievements including the Power Complex and the Smart Metering Program.
Following a nationwide search and out of a pool of 68 candidates, nine were chosen. From there Commissioner and CEO of the Philadelphia Water Department Randy Hayman and Transportation Department Director for the City of San Diego Bethany Bezak were named as finalists.
Hayman, bringing with him decades of experience in public utilities, environmental law and community-focused leadership, ultimately gained the position in April.
During his time at the Philadelphia Water Department since 2019, Hayman helped to launch projects to reduce pollution and install smart meters for al customers.
“I’m honored to take on this role and join the people of New Orleans in protecting and improving our water systems. This is a city with deep history and strong spirit. I look forward to listening, learning, and working together to build a utility that is reliable, transparent, and prepared for the future,” Hayman said.
His other successes include implementing a Water Revitalization Plan, overseeing a clean water program and receiving over $500 million in financing for water infrastructure.
SWBNO Board President Mayor LaToya Cantrell says they are excited to welcome Hayman to New Orleans.
“He is stepping into this role as we get ready to launch our new Power Complex, which will bring more reliable electricity to our drainage system. We’re also building on the success of our Smart Meter Program and revitalized billing processes. These are major steps forward for our city, and I’m confident Randy has the experience and vision to lead us through our next chapter,” said Cantrell.
