On July 24, just before 4 p.m., Troopers with Louisiana State Police began investigating a serious injury crash involving a juvenile pedestrian on LA 674 near the intersection of Whitney Drive in Iberia Parish.
Officials said the crash ultimately claimed the life of 11-year-old Nahelie Sinitiere of Jeanerette.
Authorities said an investigation revealed that Sinitiere was attempting to cross LA 674 from the eastbound shoulder. At the same time, a 2007 Honda Civic was traveling east on LA 674. For reason still under investigation, Sinitiere entered the eastbound lane and was struck by the Honda.
Sinitiere was transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the Honda was properly restrained and not injured.
Officials said the driver of the Honda was not suspected of being impaired and voluntarily provided a breath sample, which showed no alcohol was detected.
This crash remains under investigation.
