Ted Cruz proposes bill for Dyess AFB childcare facility upgrade

ABILENE, Texas (KTAB/KRBC) – U.S. Senator Ted Cruz has introduced a bill to expand childcare facilities at Dyess Air Force Base.

Sen. Cruz said, “We have a duty to ensure that military families in Texas and across the country should never have to worry about accessing childcare near where they are stationed. Expanding childcare facilities at Dyess Air Force Base will significantly enhance the quality of life for the servicemen and women stationed in Abilene. I call on my colleagues to swiftly pass this legislation.”

According to a press release, the Dyess CDC Addition Design Authorization Act will:

  • Authorize the U.S. Secretary of the Air Force to conduct planning and design work to expand childcare access for Dyess military families by initiating plans for a critical CDC facility addition.
  • Ensure design integration with existing infrastructure, security, and safety systems.
  • Preserve day-to-day operations during construction by accounting for occupancy continuity.
  • Support military family quality of life, an essential component of retention and readiness.
  • Leverage existing planning funds to streamline project execution without requiring new appropriations.
