Severe weather warning: Rockford NOAA weather radio station offline

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — With the threat of severe weather forecast for Wednesday, the NOAA issued a warning that the radio station that powers weather radios is off the air.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said Wednesday that KZZ-57 Rockford (162.465) is off the air due to a technical issue.

“Technicians have been notified of the problem and service will be restored as soon as possible,” the NOAA said in a statement.

The agency advised users to tune to a nearby weather radio station.

“With the possibility of severe weather today, anyone who normally uses the NOAA Weather Radio in northwestern IL is encouraged to use alternative transmitters today,” the NOAA said.

According to the First Warn Weather Team, scattered to severe storms are possible Wednesday afternoon.
