It was a huge day at Bowen Field, as they celebrated those with special needs in our community.
Alysha Crawford is the founder and chairperson for the Special Needs Collaborative of Mercer County, West Virginia. This organization teamed up with both teams to make it all happen.
She told 59News events like this are super important for people with special needs, as well as their families.
“Just to have an opportunity to be engaged, to have a fun day catered to you with your needs in mind, but also to raise awareness. We are one community and we need to remember all of the different people that make up that community,” said Crawford.
There were special cupcakes served along with free food to celebrate this big day.
Crawford said she plans to help continue this new tradition in the future.
The Special Needs Collaborative hosts several more events throughout the year. Check out their Facebook page for more information.
