The charges against 37-year-old Little David Arris Bowser Mason stem from the night of July 9. Minutes before 9 p.m., PWCPD responded to the intersection of Portsmouth Road and Ashland Avenue to investigate a crash.
Investigators said the driver of a Dodge Journey — later identified as Mason — was turning left onto Ashland Avenue as the operator of a Ninebot KickScooter was on the sidewalk. Without stopping, the e-scooter entered the intersection, where the two collided.
The e-scooter driver was not wearing a helmet at the time. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he passed away on July 10.
He was later identified as 40-year-old Eric Corrales.
The driver and passengers in the Dodge were not hurt.
PWCPD said Mason did not have a valid driver’s license at the time.
He was charged with driving without a valid operator’s license and released on a court summons. Authorities noted they are still working to determine whether additional charges will be sought.
