LUBBOCK, Texas — Camilo Reyes Castillo, 46, a former teacher’s aide at Levelland Middle School, was federally indicted on Wednesday and accused of child sex abuse crimes, court records stated.

Castillo was booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on June 26. A federal complaint said in February 2025, the Texas Department of Public Safety interviewed a cooperating witness who was the suspect in another case related to child sex abuse material. Court records indicated this witness had been messaging Castillo about child sex abuse material. Castillo told the witness that he worked at the middle school, and that he worked with students who need behavior and emotional support, followed by a smiling emoji.

DPS confirm Castillo worked at the Levelland Middle School with kids with behavioral needs. After a CyberTip included videos of Castillo sexually abusing two underage boys, agents interviewed Castillo and searched his phone. Authorities discovered multiple lewd videos of Castillo raping and sexually the children at his Levelland home. Most of the details in court documents were too graphic to include in this article. Court records did not indicate any of the abuse took place at school. Levelland ISD said the victims were not students.

The following is a statement from the Levelland Independent School District:

On Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the Levelland ISD administration received information that a District at-will employee was arrested on June 17, 2025, and booked into the Hockley County Jail for allegedly possessing child pornography and engaging in aggravated sexual assault of a child who is not a student of the District. This individual is no longer employed by the District.

Although the District is not aware of, and does not currently suspect, any alleged misconduct by this former employee at any of its campuses, or that any District technology was used by the former employee in the alleged commission of the offense(s) charged, the District is in communication with state law enforcement authorities. The District’s administration and school resource officers will continue to cooperate with law enforcement and other state agencies to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Student safety is a top priority to Levelland ISD. The District strictly enforces its policies and regulations relating to District employee and student conduct. Employees receive regular training regarding such policies and the District’s expectations. The Levelland ISD administration encourages employees, parents, and students with concerns of educator or student misconduct of any kind to immediately contact the District’s administration, school resource officers, or the Levelland Police Department.

State and federal law prohibit the District from disclosing confidential information related to employees and students. Therefore, the District cannot comment further on this matter.

Thank you for your continued support of the District and our students
David Foote, Interim Superintendent of Schools, Levelland Independent School District
