Victim comes forward, new charge for ex-Lubbock coach accused of child sex crimes

LUBBOCK, Texas — Another person came forward, and another sexual assault charge was added to the list of crimes against former Lubbock ISD teacher and coach, Jeremy Maxfield, 41, according to court documents obtained on Friday.

EverythingLubbock.com previously reported Maxfield was initially charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child and one count of improper relationship between and educator and student. The fourth charge of sexual assault of a child was added to Maxfield’s jail roster later Thursday.

Court records said on August 21, another victim reported to authorities that she was sexually assaulted by Maxfield. Court documents said the victim told investigators she was in a “sexual relationship” with Maxfield when she was 15 and he was 21. The victim advised Maxfield was her youth pastor at a church in Amherst at the time. The victim advised of over 20 instances of inappropriate sexual contact with Maxfield, according to court records. Some instances were in Amherst, and some occurred in the city of Lubbock. Court documents indicated this happened in 2006.

Maxfield, a former Lubbock ISD track coach and English teacher, was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service in Amherst on Wednesday. For his initial charges, court records said Maxfield “engaged in sexual intercourse on numerous occasions” while the victim was a juvenile. Court documents detailed sexual contact that occurred in Maxfield’s classroom and on school grounds. According to court records, Maxfield exchanged “numerous” nude images with the victim on his phone. That was in 2019, according to court documents. Lubbock ISD said it became aware of the investigation in April of 2024.

Maxfield began working at Lubbock High School in 2007 and resigned in June of 2024. As of Friday, Maxfield remained at the Lubbock County Detention Center on bonds totaling $200,000.
