Zachary Police arrest five people on dog fighting, drug charges

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An investigation by the Zachary Police Department (ZPD) led to the arrest of five people, including a man with a lengthy record, on dog fighting and drug charges.

ZPD said over the last two months, detectives investigated the Wilson and Neff families for their alleged involvement in illegal narcotics distribution, money laundering, and dog fighting.

According to authorities, the investigation revealed the individuals were using multiple locations in different cities to support their criminal activities. 

Zachary detectives obtained search warrants and coordinated with the East Baton Rouge Narcotics Division, East Baton Rouge SCAT Division, Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, Zachary PD Uniform Patrol, and Louisiana State Police Narcotics Division to execute the search warrants. 

During the investigation, detectives also discovered that the group was promoting and operating an illegal dog fighting ring at a home on Baker Boulevard in Baker. Police say this location was primarily used for dog fighting, training, and breeding purposes. Detectives, along with Animal Control, seized multiple dogs and items such as treadmills, bottles of steroids, vitamins, and proteins to enhance the fighting dogs. 

The following individuals were booked on multiple charges, including possession of drug paraphernalia, transactions involving drug proceeds, money laundering, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, felony dog fighting, animal cruelty, and multiple other charges.
