Toilets deliberately blown up with explosives in Kaysville, other public properties vandalized

KAYSVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — Several parks, restrooms and other public facilities have been vandalized in Kaysville over the past three weeks, according to Kaysville City Parks and Recreation.

City officials say they have spent nearly $10,000 on repairs and cleanup due to repeated acts of vandalism across public spaces.

Cole Stevhens, Parks and Recreation Director for Kaysville City said they saw majority of the damage during the Fourth of July weekend.

“At the Angel Street Soccer Complex, a toilet was blown apart in our women’s restroom. A light above the drinking panel was broken. Most probably it was a rock….It cost us $6,000 in repairs,” Stevhens said.

They have been cleaning up graffiti on buildings, signs, and playground equipment. Officials say toilets have also been deliberately blown up with explosives.

Crews have also been dealing with broken fences and lighting, firework damage, firework debris scattered in parking lots and grass areas and broken restroom fixtures.

There have also been fires started on park property that crews have had to respond to due to these incidents.

“It’s frustrating. We now have to allocate money to fix these things where the same tax dollars could be used for other things that would benefit the community than replacing damage from juveniles that don’t have a lot of respect for public property,” Stevhens said.

“Our staff works hard every day to provide clean, safe, and enjoyable spaces for all to enjoy—only to have them repeatedly destroyed,” Officials said in a statement.

Police are asking the community for help to find the individuals responsible for this incident.

If you have any information about recent vandalism incidents, you are requested to call the Kaysville Police Department. Police also remind that if you witness vandalism or suspicious activity, you should contact the police department for help.
