
The man nicknamed “Candy Man” for his sweet tooth has been on an even sweeter mission lately, serving youth and underserved communities around America with one stop, right in Bossier City.
The one-day event was held at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, which hosted a basketball camp where participants had the opportunity not only to meet but also to play with the two-time NBA Champion.
According to a social media post from the hosting church, he comes on a mission to develop well-rounded leaders on the court, in the classroom, and in life.
A church member who oversees the gym programs says the event had a tremendous turnout, with a large number of participants. He also shared that the event was organized by the Caddo Parish Parks and Recreation Department.
This isn’t the start of Lamar’s work in diverse communities.
Lamar’s Facebook Page highlights his recent philanthropic endeavors, from hosting basketball camps and speaking at graduations to advocating for drug rehabilitation and mental health education. A matter he specifically brought to President Donald Trump at the May Crypto Dinner and Gala hosted by the president.
The former Sixth Man of the Year recently moved to Killeen, TX, where he publicly announced plans to launch Lamar Odom Academy.
In a press conference, he announced that the academy will not just focus on sports but also STEM and e-gaming programs.
