Indy man’s body found in Wabash River

FOUNTAIN COUNTY, Ind. — A death investigation for an Indianapolis man after his body was recovered in the Wabash River in Fountain County yesterday.

According to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources, around 1:12 p.m. on Saturday, a 911 call was made about a possible drowning in the 2200 block of North Portland Arch Road.

When first responders arrived, they were told a 21-year-old man entered the water attempting to cross the river but disappeared under the surface and did not resurface.

Indiana Conservation Officers, Lafayette Fire Department and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office water rescue team deployed boats and used sonar equipment to search the area.

The man’s body was recovered just after 5 p.m.

The investigation is still ongoing and the cause of death is pending an autopsy. Currently, the identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of the family.
