The Montgomery County Animal Services and Adoption Center (MCASAC) said the incident happened the afternoon of June 28. A concerned citizen in Burtonsville heard “desperate meowing” from beneath their car’s hood.
A kitten had gotten stuck and was “terrified, with no way to escape,” MCASAC said.
Firefighters responded first and found the kitten. They tried to access the tight space.
Then, the shelter’s animal services officer “calmly, expertly, and steadily freed the terrified, exhausted kitten from the hot engine bay,” MCASAC said.
“It was a true team effort, and a true example of what happens when the community, first responders, and animal services work together,” the shelter said. “Thanks to this swift and heroic rescue, the kitten is now safe, recovering, and in caring hands.”
