4 displaced after fire breaks out on north side of Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS — Indianapolis firefighters responded to a residential fire that displaced four people on the city’s north side early Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to a home located in the 8300 block of Union Chapel Road after receiving reports of a heavy fire erupting on the back deck. IFD said firefighters arrived and observed “heavy smoke” present in the sky as flames were seen in the home’s rear and smoke emanating from the attic.

While fire crews turned their attention to the interior, they were forced to evacuate to avoid being struck by falling debris. The blaze was eventually brought under control in 35 minutes.

IFD confirmed the fire displaced two adults and two teens as one of the occupants received medical treatment on scene for a “slight” injury. Preliminary information indicates that only one of the occupants was home when the fire broke out and neighbors made them aware of the growing fire.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
