Jackson holds inauguration for Mayor John Horhn, City Council

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – The City of Jackson will host a full day of inaugural events celebrating Mayor-Elect John Horhn, who will become the capital city’s 54th mayor.

The inauguration of Horhn and the incoming City Council will be held on Tuesday, July 1 at the Jackson Convention Complex on East Pascagoula Street.

Inauguration Day Schedule of Activities & Events:

  • Inaugural Prayer Service | 8:00 a.m. (Doors open at 7:15 a.m.)
  • Oath of Office Ceremony | 11:00 a.m. (Doors open at 10:00 a.m.)
  • Inaugural Gala | 7:00 p.m. (Doors open at 5:00 p.m. )

The Inaugural Prayer Service will feature prayers and reflections from eight Jackson-based faith community leaders, representing a diverse range of denominations and religious traditions.

Performances and appearances during the Oath of Office Ceremony and Inaugural Gala include:

  • S. Representative, The Honorable Bennie G. Thompson
  • The World-Renowned Mississippi Mass Choir
  • Blues legends Willie Clayton and Grammy Award Winner Bobby Rush
  • Governor of Mississippi, The Honorable Tate Reeves
  • Violinist John Eze Uzodinma,
  • Former Mayor, The Honorable Kane Ditto, and
  • Bishop Sharma D. Lewis Logan and others

City Council Members to be Sworn in Include:

  • The Honorable Ashby Foote (Ward 1)
  • The Honorable Montyne “Tina” Cla (Ward 2)
  • The Honorable Kenneth Stokes, (Ward 3)
  • The Honorable Brian Grizzell, PhD. (Ward 4)
  • The Honorable Vernon Hartle (Ward 5)
  • The Honorable Lashia Brown-Thomas, (Ward 6)
  • The Honorable Kevin Parkinson (Ward 7)
