FREDERICK, Md. (DC News Now) — A police officer was involved in a shooting early Sunday morning in Frederick, police said.
In a news release, the Frederick Police Department (FPD) said that officers responded to the 1300 block of Mulberry Court around 2:50 a.m. for a reported suspicious vehicle.
An officer found a car that was believed to be the same suspicious vehicle and tried to stop it. The car did not stop and instead continued forward until it reached a dead-end street.
After the car got to the cul-de-sac, the FPD officer got out of his patrol car and started giving commands.
“The driver accelerated toward the officer, prompting the officer to fire his service weapon. He discharged four rounds,” FPD said.
The car left the area. Officers found it nearby shortly later, but nobody was in it. FPD said that the car had been hit by the gunfire, but no one was hurt.
FPD said that the involved officer has been placed on administrative leave according to standard protocol.
