ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) —Rockford gas prices dropped slightly over the last week, but residents are bracing for the state’s annual gas tax increase to kick in tomorrow.
The latest report from GasBuddy said an average gallon of gas in the Rockford area currently costs $3.24.
The national average fell as well, down to the lowest price per gallon for the 4th of July weekend since 2021.

Illinois has the second-highest gas tax in the United States, behind California.
